The Operation « One basket for one household“ closed on July 1^st. 6450 € were collected and enabled us to distribute 218 baskets with essential food. We bought the food from an independent wholesaler and the baskets were made by young Moroccan volunteers from the UTAT.

We had to choose which villages we would assist, a task we found the most difficult of the entire operation. The main criteria was to serve the most remote villages, whose economy is closely linked to a tourism activity.

Based on this our choice was Labassen (30 families, situated approximately at KM20 on the UTAT105 and at KM 25 on the Marathon de l’Atlas), Amenzel (45 families, situated approximately at KM45 on the UTAT105), and Agouns (115 families, situated approximately at KM 14 on the Marathon de l’Atlas) The remaining 28 baskets were given to the mule drivers and other people who helped us with the distribution of the baskets, particularly complicated due to the sanitary crises.

It is Brahim Idali Bassen, hailing from the High Atlas, a mountain guide with a strong connection to the UTAT team (1^st Berber to race the UTAT, 5 times finisher, 1^st at the Challenge de l’Atlas in 2019 and in charge of the UTAT camp site), who organized and managed the distribution to all three villages.

We do realize this is but a small help since the borders are still closed and there are no tourists, however it proved a concrete aid, highly appreciated by the families in question.

The Moroccan Bank for Industry and Commerce allowed us to pursue the operation, via a national information campaign, for which we are very thankful.
